NFC

NFC, Apple Pay® and Android Pay™

With Merchantlynx, you’re ready.

What is NFC?
Near Field Communication (NFC) is a short-range wireless technology that allows devices to exchange information quickly at close proximity. It allows customers to pay simply by waving or tapping their NFC-enabled card or mobile device (also known as “Contactless” payments or “Tap to Pay”). NFC-enabled transactions utilize the same underpinning and security as EMV™ chip transactions.

Should I get an NFC-enabled terminal?
Almost every modern smartphone sold today is equipped with NFC contactless payment functionality. Mobile payments in the US will reach 90 billion by 2017. Its ease-of-use and high security make NFC a preferred method for many of your customers, and merchants can boost sales by accepting NFC payments.

What is Apple Pay and Android Pay?
Apple Pay and Android Pay are mobile payment and digital wallet services available on modern smartphones and smartwatches from Apple® and Google™. Like other NFC-enabled payment devices, customer card numbers are never transmitted to payment terminals; a dynamic tokenized number is generated and sent instead. Customers with Apple Pay or Android Pay on their devices are presented with a digital wallet when at the checkout, and is finalized with a fingerprint (when available) or passcode.

Does Merchantlynx sell terminals that support NFC?
Central Payment was one of the first US payment processors to push EMV and NFC-supported technology. Talk to your Central Payment agent to find out which currently available terminals have NFC support, like the Verifone VX 520Verifone VX 680 and RiO.
